Presentation
Leading experts from Latin America, Africa, Near and Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, Far East, Oceania and Australia present their expert insights into specific conditions, as well as progress and challenges in the development of the specialty. [books.google.com]
It is uncommon to see cases presenting with total gangrenous colon and distal ileum which is an atypical presentation in our case and till now not reported in literature. [omicsonline.org]
Michael Crawford Background Pain arising from the gallbladder and biliary tree is a common clinical presentation. Differentiation from other causes of abdominal pain can sometimes be difficult. [racgp.org.au]
The response to therapy and prevalence of cirrhosis at presentation are the same as in patients who present with more insidious onset. [nature.com]
Entire Body System
- Weight Loss
The diarrhea may also be chronic and weight loss can occur. A specific type of heart valve damage can occur in some cases as well as other cardiac disturbances. All of these features constitute the Carcinoid Syndrome. [carcinoid.org]
This provides T1 information and helps detect focal or diffuse fatty infiltration (loss of signal on out-of-phase sequence). Diffusion-weighted sequences using b-values of 0,500 and 1000 with ADC maps. [appliedradiology.com]
- Sepsis
Patients with stones should proceed to cholecystectomy once their sepsis has settled. [racgp.org.au]
Generalized peritonitis, sepsis, and dehydration are the principal complications. Radiographically, ISK is often mistaken for simple sigmoid volvulus. [omicsonline.org]
Respiratoric
- Respiratory Distress
Low birth weight premature infants As many as 20% of neonates with respiratory distress syndrome have patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). [emedicine.medscape.com]
The infant was transported to our facility for total body cooling due to perinatal asphyxia and hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, and for ventilator management of respiratory distress from meconium aspiration. [dovepress.com]
- Cough
These are: bananas, pineapple and its juice, red plums, avocado, walnuts and other nuts, kiwi fruit, tomatoes, various cough medicines muscle relaxing medicines, acetaminophen (Tylenol), caffeine, fluorouracil, iodine solutions (Lugol’s solution), phenacetin [carcinoid.org]
Acute symptoms, such as fever, sore throat, and cough, suggest adenopathy resulting from an upper respiratory tract infection. [aafp.org]
Gastrointestinal
- Abdominal Pain
Differentiating biliary pain from other causes of abdominal pain can sometimes be difficult. There is substantial variability in the type, duration and associations of pain arising from the gallbladder. [racgp.org.au]
The predominant symptoms and signs of presentation include abdominal pain and tenderness (100%), abdominal distension (94% to 100%), nausea and vomiting (87% to 100%), rebound tenderness (69%), and shock (0% to 60%) [ 1, 4, 5 ]. [omicsonline.org]
pain, jaundice, and a palpable abdominal mass. [dovepress.com]
Of the other four patients, one complained of abdominal pain and backache, one of right epigastric discomfort, fatigue and yellow urine, and one of liver pain for six months; the symptoms in these four patients disappeared after TAE. [journals.plos.org]
They can cause intermittent abdominal pain and then a change in bowel habits that may lead to intestinal obstruction. [carcinoid.org]
- Abdominal Distension
The predominant symptoms and signs of presentation include abdominal pain and tenderness (100%), abdominal distension (94% to 100%), nausea and vomiting (87% to 100%), rebound tenderness (69%), and shock (0% to 60%) [ 1, 4, 5 ]. [omicsonline.org]
Abdominal distension and slight liver pain occurred in some patients, and may be due to embolization of tumor vessels, drug action and ischemia. ALT and AST increased after TAE, but not to a clinically significant level, except in one patient. [journals.plos.org]
- Regurgitation
Coronary, systemic and pulmonary arteriovenous fistula, peripheral pulmonary stenosis and ventricular septal defect with aortic regurgitation and collateral vessels must be differentiated from PAD on echocardiogram. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Cardiovascular
- Tachycardia
Tachycardia, exertional dyspnoea, laboured breathing, fatigue or poor growth are common. Large shunts may lead to failure to thrive, recurrent infection of the upper respiratory tract and congestive heart failure. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
An electrocardiogram was done, which showed sinus tachycardia with some premature ventricular complexes and prolonged QT interval (QTc 472). She was then evaluated by cardiologists and nutritional teams. [karger.com]
Acute cholecystitis Acute cholecystitis presents with severe pain associated with a raised temperature, tachycardia, tenderness in the right upper quadrant (especially on inspiration) and occasionally, positive blood cultures. [racgp.org.au]
- Chest Pain
Other counterarguments were the absence of coronary risk factors, and the atypical chest pain. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]

- Palpitations
2 The clinical presentations in symptomatic patients can vary from angina, atypical chest pain, syncope, dyspnoea, palpitation, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, and can even lead to sudden cardiac death. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]

Ultrasound
- Enlargement of the Liver
In some cases they cause obscure intestinal bleeding or sometimes don’t declare themselves until they cause painful enlargement of the liver due to large deposits of carcinoid metastases that have spread to that organ. [carcinoid.org]
Treatment
When clinical trials show that a new treatment is better than the standard treatment, the new treatment may become the standard treatment. Patients may want to think about taking part in a clinical trial. [cancer.gov]
There are abundant treatments for carcinoid tumors and syndrome though choice of treatment and their applications can be quite complex. [carcinoid.org]
One study successfully used TAE alone for the treatment of cavernous hepatic hemangioma [ 25 ]. Therefore, we hypothesized that TAE can be used as the sole treatment for giant hepatic hemangiomas. [journals.plos.org]
The first-line treatment for atypical facial pain is a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline. [patient.info]
Liver transplantation, evaluation of the therapeutic response of hepatocellular carcinoma, trauma, and post-treatment complications are also addressed. [books.google.de]
Prognosis
Asymptomatic patients with a small duct have a normal vital prognosis but have a lifetime risk of endocarditis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis The prognosis is generally considered excellent in patients in whom the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is the only problem. [emedicine.medscape.com]
Invasive mediastinal tumors have a very poor prognosis, but this tumor located in mediastinum is very rare, so unfortunely aren’t many data about it, and estimated survival for this patient. [romanianjournalcardiology.ro]
Rather, its role is to characterise the tumour and, in particular, to differentiate pancreatic NFET from ductal adenocarcinoma, as in comparison, malignant NFETs have a more favourable prognosis (5-year survival rate 40% compared with 3%–5% for adenocarcinoma [it.glosbe.com]

Etiology
Lyme Disease Reportable Vectorborne Disease Etiological agent: B. burgdorferi (U.S.), B. afzeli, B. garinii, (In Europe and Asia) Transmitted by: Ixodid scapulars Ticks (Deer Ticks) in eastern U.S. I. pacificus ticks in western U.S. [imreference.com]
It typically presents in the head and neck as cervical adenopathy of unknown etiology. Multiple biopsies showing florid lymphoid hyperplasia are frequently required to establish the diagnosis. [aafp.org]
